Analysis of Lumbar Apophyseal Ring Fracture of Military Soldiers.



Abstract
Lumbar apophyseal ring fracture is rarely found in adolescents.
We evaluated 24 cases of Lumbar apophyseal ring fracture from, January, 1994 to June, 1995.
These fractures were classified into three types. Type 1 is a simple separation of the entire margin. Type 2 is an avulsion fracture of some of the substance of the vertebral body, including the margin, Type 3 is a more localized fracture.
Most common type is type 3 and main site located upper portion of S1.
Knowledge of this entity and correct radiographic diagnosis(CT, MRI) facilitate operative planning.
